1. Asma' knocked, and the travelers were lost,
And the mounts were winged creatures of fates obscure,

2. She knocked us, so she attained her wish,
Though the ungrateful would deny it for sure,

3. Then she said – and her wonder was evident:
“How wondrous that she came here, where the lions roam!”

4. “Do not wonder at our coming here, for coming by night
Is the wont of moons, while people sleep at home”

5. My wonder was at her generosity,
Her coming here though she is wild and shy

6. She turned away, difficult to attain,
And came to us, though she steps lightly by

7. A doe, had the wind made her scent flow,
Her lover would follow and never let go

8. The watchful eyes saw that she had stolen
From her neck beauty that would not forego

9. I managed to embrace her, though she avoids
The embrace that even the loving may despise

10. So we embraced, as love dictates we should
And she sighed, her breast over mine laid nice

11. By my troth, before this she would refuse
Contact, though her longing she could not disguise

12. If asked, she would claim she is just a doe
That hunters cannot catch, however hard they try

13. A wild doe, that hunts those she circles around
Perhaps she will circle around where you lie

14. And her father refused to give her away
The day she leaned towards me, try as he might

15. She arrived from him in barren wilderness
And shone, as faces of night glowed bright

16. I said, as her being exuded incense;
“Is this Ibn Yazeed’s perfumes suffice?

17. Or just a breeze that came from a fragrant meadow?”
What shade of bliss came to me this night?

18. If only night's shadows had permanence though
What a retreat she granted me! If only

19. The night would extend, and the cocks not crow
Yet when morn arrived, she was lost

20. Gifts given, then taken, bring only woe
Not like Ibn Yazeed's gifts, for they

21. Will remain, wherever existence may flow
Majid never withheld a hand

22. And if I show gratitude, it will overflow
Many fathers of glory has he

23. Each more wondrous for the dynasty's halo
Whenever Bellies' clan bared its stomach

24. And the land’s backs were burnt dry and sallow
He would forgive their sins, as nobles forgive,

25. Not prone to vengeance, inclined to bestow
From them he sought loftiness, sincerity

26. Where rights are remembered, not lineages hollow
They never lacked the honor they built

27. Above Nejd, which no glory could outgrow
He feared the say of all Muslims:

28. “By inheritance alone, you shadows throw”
So he strove to seek his family’s heights

29. With earnest effort that would never plateau
Walking their path, following guidance

30. Upright in conduct, refusing to bow
The heavier the burdens of loftiness

31. The humbler he was, though he’d status endow
If you tried to slight him, you’d incite

32. Like fire well stoked, he’d fiercely glow
He'd tremble with a rage that refused

33. In him decline of glory to show
You who ask of his manners, know

34. In seriousness he melts, in religion he’s stone
How much he suffered worldly woes!

35. Yet he answered adversity's call and rose
Not like the indifferent whose repute

36. Is but death, from all custom far thrown
A group where if they intend a good deed

37. They balk, though boldness to evil shown
Would that they were apes, emulating the ways

38. Of men, as apes copy gestures half known!
I said to my age, as it oppressed

39. The virtuous, shadows obscurely sown:
The vile bid you good morrow, for them

40. You allow free rein, while choking men of renown
Oh time, wherein all is reversed!

41. Mounts’ blankets are now but animal skins torn
If Ibn Yazeed grants me respite

42. From you, my eyes will never show scorn
Thumal, the hoped for, unfetter of bonds

43. Nature made free, spirit made loose, vigour full blown
Azd became radiant, and he shone between them

44. Like a mountain between deer and goats strewn
Bringing to life whoever of them death took

45. While from the folk the vile spirits were thrown
Say to he who denies his outstanding merit

46. As the Jews denied the truth so clearly shown
In denying him, you opposed your fortune

47. So desist and leave, like Thamud overthrown
His virtues cannot enumerated be

48. Double the sands that cloak this earthly zone
O Abu Al-Abbas, I'm a man who hates

49. Those who stubbornly the truth have disowned
By God, you're the man whom I love

50. As I love bowing down before the Throne
I have not ceased being your loyal footman, heart and hand and tongue since I served in your troops

51. Witness that you're a teeming sea
With gifts from your essence ceaselessly strown

52. Your ripe juicy pearls gathered effortlessly
Provide for us necklaces looped and sewn

53. But the sea is bitter brine, while you’re
The fresh sweet drink, coolness easily known

54. If affairs have kept me from you
Though you I wished to see, and restfulness disown

55. I'm one banned from sweet potions that heal
A thirst that makes life without them moan

56. So provide me a cause that allows
Me to enter your sea, if blessings have grown

57. And undertake my need, appointing one
Through whom stacks of wares can be easily thrown

58. My need weighs heavy, so carry its load
Do not let it burden you, though you the mighty throne

59. Learn what you do not yet know
Some things whose price cannot be easily shown

60. That glory has a steep and narrow path
Up which, with hardship, man must climb and groan

61. And that when a master grants a lowly one power
The master rules, while the slave obeys his dictate alone

62. And that he who does good, others defer to
Rarely is an unguided creature tightly reined

63. It is not built up by futile platitudes
Nor trodden by frivolity, faces prone

64. Rather, by a free man exerting himself
While creation sleeps, he wakes fitfully moaning

65. And by him showing, with his cheeks' flash
Faces where frowns and rejection have grown

66. And by his ears being battered by what
The insolent and foolish and vile have thrown

67. All I enumerated, the prices of glory
For which, from them, gold coins can be bought and loaned

68. So regard me as one whose hand is yours
I am indebted, until vines twist and trees have grown

69. With your hands, that if once denied
Witnesses would rise up from where they were sown

70. In infidelity's darkness they shine like pillars
Lit up in black night, towering tall and lone

71. So befriend me, friend me, my gratitude overflowing, pouring endlessly like the constantly moving streams
And help me in my need, recruiting one through whom

72. Upon people, gifts pile up easily thrown
A free and noble man helps in needs

73. Not a envious one, but a giver widely known
He seeks to fulfill needs, not covet and hoard

74. Rarely is one bound who himself has not bound and tightly sewn
