Throughout time and month

3. Fleeing from the goblet
And melody of lute and musical ensemble

4. To a barren wasteland
That has no use with the hoopoe

5. And the bulbul in its burrow
And they live with thornapples

6. And artemisia like embers
Not craving the Magian girls

7. That stone-hearted men yearned for
Why not prefer the taverns

8. Of pearl and glittering gems
And a blonde whose necklace

9. Resembles scattered pearls
Like fire amidst light

10. And like musk when diffused
As the Sayyid and the son

11. Of Sayyid prefer
Shahinshah of Khurasan

The young man of eloquence and euphony in prose and verse

21. The young man of calligraphy and correctness
The young man of prohibition and command

22. The young man who draws from an ocean
The young man who digs into boulders

23. The young man of chess and backgammon
The young man of wine and the moon

24. What do you know of the lion
And what deceived you about the tiger

25. What do you know of the torrent
And what deceived you about the sea

26. What do you know about death
And what deceived you about fate

27. The tongue of the king among nomads
The tongue of the king in settlements

28. When he ascends the pulpit like the full moon
Draped in the night

29. And clad in the dawn
Black hair upon which radiance shines

30. Generous tent and stallion
Upon his forehead a dark forelock like an eagle

31. And the people incline towards his voice
With a chest however ample the chest

32. And how much he spent in praise
And how much he spent for reward

33. And how the counter counted for him
With numbers and approximation

34. As reward from Him like crops
For praise in it like seeds

35. Come now, that supremacy and pride
Is with the eminent

36. I am the son of Tālqānī
I have roared with warning

37. Tell those who challenge
Your span is the measure

38. I have not become powerless
Nor felt truly poor

39. None like me of Qays
Among the treacherous and cunning

40. Rumi and Basran
While Egyptians are not infidels

41. From Rome, from Basra
With tide and ebb

42. Not alike are the lost and the guide
Nor the ignorant and the sage

43. I am covert in secret
As I appear in public

44. I pass the night cautious
Fearing the molar and nail

45. So my front is but my back
And my back is but my front

46. My voice like thunder
And hissing and roar

47. I am the stallion, I am the stallion
Without defect or nonsense

48. Upon you is the silence of virtue
And mine is the neighing of zeal

49. If I summon jinn
They huddle in panic

50. My war is not with riffraff
Nor my peace with the wretched

51. I praise myself
Not meager praise

52. And whoever praises me after
With lies like these lies

53. No poetry but my poetry
By the mere standard of noble birth

54. My praise is musk of two abodes
And my fame is ambergris fragrance

55. Come now, who can protect me
From the evil eye upon my throat

56. For I fear though I've done no wrong
The glancing arrows that sting

57. Upon a soul ransomed
And a face fresh and bright

58. I seek refuge for the soul in Allah
For I am lion of the thicket

For I mend fractures

For I am the ensign of travel
