1. O Qasim the Just, comfort and solace,
Whose affection gathered and whose love the passions blow,

2. Who prevailed without objection over the people's love,
However he wished, an effulgent moon

3. That the eyes of many looked up to,
And hearts in awe and radiance,

4. Who made the evenings into mornings,
Whenever the dawn turned into dusk,

5. He killed despair while firmly rooted,
And brought to life aspiring hopes,

6. And the prince approved of him when he saw him,
And deemed him a sight and expectation,

7. The foremost of all said when he saw him,
The full moon described itself unambiguously,

8. The lightning heralded life and the morn adorned itself
To turn darkness into illumination,

9. Everything I see of you is good tidings,
May God confirm these good tidings,

10. And if the confidants of people are obscured
From you, then take the bright faces as witnesses,

11. He spoke the truth about him, then chose him
And preferred him, and He does not choose poorly,

12. So he came to provide justice to the flock abundantly,
Except that I suffered injustice from him,

13. You are gracious, so bear my defiance, and I have
Persisted in your good opinion, hopeful,

14. By the bird, fortunate for me, that used to be
A courier in a flourishing state,

15. You have not known, since you knew him,
Any bird except gifts being gifts,

16. Then you brought me closer, so your favor upon me
Increased, from a supported prince made closer,

17. And you took me in with kindness, so God's hand blessed you
Abundantly with a shining reward,

18. And likewise, whenever you intended more
For your Master, you were granted it and prosperity,

19. I am your Master, you emancipated my bondage
After I feared an ignoble state,

20. So why do you turn your face from me
And forget my need, invalidating it?

21. The messenger used to bring me happiness
And subdue the enemies,

22. But you cut off the messenger sparingly from me,
Taking him as a boast and glory,

23. If I am not a benefactor in all you request
I am not a benefactor in recompense,

24. So whenever you wanted a wise consulter,
I would be among those who consult the wise,

25. And whenever you wanted a competitive poet,
I would be among those who compete with poets,

26. And whenever you sought from me an orator,
My speeches would surpass the orators,

27. And whenever the epistles tested my envoys,
My eloquence would deliver the message to the envoys,

28. Except I left my matter to your discretion,
Covering every disgrace seeking refuge,

29. You are the one who when a blemish appeared,
Made concealing it a covering,

30. I am disgraced in everything except your grace,
I remain your garb and covering,

31. And meeting you is the water of my life,
So do not cut off from me the meeting,

32. Name me ungrateful in everything, but accept
Ungratefulness with thanks and not aloofness,

33. I am your Master in affection and inclination,
So burden my shoulders with responsibilities,

34. And I am the man who can only be burdened
With thanking you for your blessings,

35. Come near if singers praised your qualities,
And female singers sang their song,

36. So the pluckers were inspired to sing,
And their dead were brought back to life,

37. O to have them with Ibn Surayj,
Ma'bad, and al-Gharid, and al-Mayla,

38. And wonders followed them and sang,
Those named Su’aba and Lawla,

39. So this one and that told of your open-handedness,
When they vied in giving,

40. And God refused any similar singing then,
Justifying song with song,

41. No singer sang you evenly, seeking one
Who combines wealth and song,

42. That, and do not forget me when the blossoms
Spread out their varieties and displayed their beauty,

43. And the gardens told of your beauty and charm,
Though that is trespassing on them,

44. And al-Qumri sang of his brother,
And Mukka'a responded, repeating his song,

45. And the narcissi of her glances inclined to you,
Telling of the women's attachment,

46. A place not declining, boasting of adornment,
And provoking with its beauty seeking beauty,

47. It has not ceased borrowing beauty from you,
Wearing it, and seeking praise,

48. So it is the beauty of the appearance, and the praise
Of the admirer, telling of your intelligence,

49. And ah, come near if a cloud hauled
One day, at dusk or in daylight,

50. So a torrential rain cloud rose up envying
The green her abundant gray water,

51. Whenever a time passed, it left behind
A light rain pouring down,

52. It poured its water on every land
After greeting Al-Jawza with it,

53. So it told of your palm that leaves sustenance for us,
And forces the streams,

54. And look if your eyes behold
Our platters that know no end,

55. And the oils told of the breadth of your chest,
Though your chest of oils is more copious,

56. May God make all that a ransom for you,
If ransom can match requital,

57. If we offered the sun and the sea for your ransom,
Time would say: Add to the ransom,

58. Do not neglect there, O you who God refused
To resemble the ignorant,

59. My knowledge is good if it waters
The beautiful location, quenching thirsty hearts,

60. And my rising above the rude levelers,
Shouting nonsense, though not called poets,

61. Warrants that I be your lowest companion,
Exalted by my right above companions,

62. I saw your servant as yellow, without produce
Or plentiful produce, or scant produce,

63. Do not leave the shoot of the generous from fertilization
Empty of the generous, seeking food,

64. Where is one like me, your sentinel
Or your boon companion, deemed a confidant?

65. God, the Scales, and the Justice witness altogether,
Witnessing conclusively,

66. That my view weighs heavy in reason,
Let my right hand weigh it, and views,

67. You are valiant, accomplished, so leave the names
To the stupid, and reveal the news,

68. You did not examine what I have, and did not investigate,
So make your neglect an investigation,

69. And wake from the slumber of the kingdom, you know
That God has a group of scholars,

70. And recall my covenant, you are the man
Who did not consider it forgetfully,

71. And respect the sanctity of kindness, service,
And praise, pleasing the generous,

72. And people appointed as caretakers by the caretakers of the kingdom
Deserve consideration,

73. A drink of your harshness I tasted
When you labeled me that, a bitter drink,

74. But the generous may turn kindnesses
Into evils for his servant in error,

75. Then take care of him and satisfy his freedom and shame,
So when joy departs, it will return,

76. And when shade recoils, it will remit,
Why did you discard there my traits,

77. My loyalists, I deemed loyalists?
It was only right that I be pitied

78. When I saw injustice, not pitiless,
But they saw the mercy of enemies, and met them

79. Completely with their aggression and loyalty,
They betrayed me and lowered the full moon in ignorance,

80. Imagining it stumbling blindly,
If only a warner came to reproach,

81. So that an illness there meets its remedy,
Neither a bringer of glad tidings came after that

82. Of lasting approval, upholding the blame,
Nor a mediator between them,

83. Justifying the estranged,
They did not console, and did not console a friend,

84. Mistreatment, evil be upon them,
They denied their good, and the harm cannot be secured

85. From the deniers, so calamity befell all the rest,
They left me the legacy of the wolf with the lamb,

86. And in their ignorance of my right they went astray,
And if a firebrand supports you there,

87. Do not be like him, hostile,
But if he transgresses, transgress upon him,

88. And do not retaliate on me for his twisting,
If he appears to slight me, while summer

89. And winter are near, far be that departure,
Do not abandon me vainly, so a snake rises in me

90. Disobeying the charmers,
May you never lack, O Ahl al-Wahb,

91. A patron, violently pulling and drawing me near,
I tasted your harshness when

92. You labeled me, a draft bitter and murky,
But the generous may turn kindnesses into evils

93. For his servant mistakenly,
Then take care of him, and satisfy his freedom and shame,
