1. The ignorant drank with joy
From the hand of the best of mankind, thrice

2. Of a drink superior to any drink
And a hand that has always been alive and giving

3. Then he turned away, crowned with the crown of glory
His footsteps will remain an inheritance

4. If the ignorant only knew what was hidden from him
He would have filled his garment with events

5. Whether from envy or the hands of death made him drink
From the wine of depravity, cups of sediment

6. Cursed is the ignorant, he changed without a doubt
Evil is he in whom males were made females

7. We are tired of his unpleasant face
And his worthless prattle and drivel

8. The ignorant attends with no joy of company
And if absent, he is absent without missed inheritance

9. And as for the Prince, were it not for ties
That he has with him, he would not be so lenient

10. My enemies would have made him drink the cup of death
And vilification would have uprooted him entirely

11. He would have been the most wretched of people, so the wailer cried
Oh, his misfortune upon him is a renewed outcry

12. He is a billy-goat and you still see the billy-goat
Wretchedly bleating endlessly

13. A man who bears grudges and walks about
Not caring for that in the slightest

14. I was told his neighbor Ibn Abi’l-‘Aqleem
Has become, for his land, a digger and plowman

15. A man whose presence makes gatherings desolate
And when he dies, he desolates the graves
