1. I came to you, keeping my promise
There is a merciful Lord, and a cursed devil

2. The devil promises disgrace
To deprive me, though he is mean and unworthy

3. While God promises benevolence
So let the generous fulfill his promise

4. And you, by fulfilling my hopes
And refuting the worst assumptions, are supreme
