1. I sought you out, though I make no request
Except what I know is your kindness’ behest

2. Not to gain your praises, though worthy you’d be
But so you’d remain the noble youth I see

3. I called you those names I know you by
Hoping to move your heart thereby

4. No reward but the metre nicely wrought
For the poem is not a debt to be bought

5. Yet I know you see it as duty bound
One worthy soul knowing another found

6. If my thoughts you approve and admire
Your flashing smiles my hopes will fire

7. If fate keeps us apart and blessings hide
Still I'll think you lack malice inside

8. The rain cloud that passes one land in a sweep
May drench the next in downpour deep

9. God willing, strip bare one tract of land
While clothing another in blossoms grand
