1. O Abu Hasan you are still close to us
Not like in the past, in fear and dread

2. May Allah water the days of fasting though past
Without what we crave of food and drink

3. Yet they were good in our gathering
And bringing hearts closer together

4. My eyes roam in the early spring
Of knowledge, manners, and books

5. Meeting you gives life and rest to bodies
Not all who come after you have wisdom

6. You have turned people's hearts from all friends
To you, with your lack of pride

7. When we leave your conversation we feel empty
And return to hearing a kind of abuse

8. If we speak the truth, the minds of some people
Fall short of my status and duty
