1. A parchment of reproach that remains shaded
And in your neglect it finds a disgraced abode

2. The wind wandered in its corners one day
As a steed wandered in an enclosure

3. Uncovered before people yet
Embroidered, indeed it is an enclosure

4. And I saw palms playing in
It, so its back became a field

5. The frivolous inscribed in it columns
Its texture worn out, no longer discernible

6. Your lads scribbled ephemera in it
Or men who seemed like lads

7. When they did not swear by the sanctity within
It, though in its belly were meanings most beautiful

8. Like the blind who fouled about
In blindness, not knowing it was precious

9. And many like it, garments are wished away
Unless the orchard is fortified

10. Interlopers rummage it and in it
Are fine fruits and sweet-smelling herbs

11. And it permits every ugliness, how ugly
A parchment of reproach left unguarded

12. Grievous how cheapened in your eyes
She whom you disgraced and brought low

13. A repentance after your blame
Will you accept, O So-and-So?
