1. In a silent house that has become the abode of the damned,
Sacred on the inside, cursed on the outside,

2. In it are martyrs of peace who did not witness turmoil,
Nor heard of the name of fortress or frontier,

3. But just as their mothers bore them,
They were flung into every dark abyss,

4. They did not enjoy a mother’s bosom or cradle,
So it pains us that their resting place is

5. The house of the debauched until the Day of Resurrection,
The house where every debauched man and wicked woman spend the night,

6. It has an evil lord made for it,
Matching it perfectly as fate decreed,

7. When its guests and women are gathered,
It is belly to belly and chest to chest,

8. A mixed crowd of men and women
Who stay up committing sins until dawn,

9. What curse can encompass the bedfellows of sin?
What mercy can encompass two martyrs in a grave?

10. It is as if I can see them between one filth and another
On the night of Qadr, their sins pile up,

11. They spend the night fearing not Allah's wrath,
Nor caring for His plots or schemes,

12. The stars of the night about to fall like flowers,
Or wander lost, not flowing,

13. If the Night of Qadr coincided with them, it would
Lag behind their timing until the end of time.
