1. O you who have turned away from my covenant,
And dissolved what bonds I made firm,

2. You poured out the sea's abundance until when
You reached me, you left me thirsty and alone,

3. Would that I knew, did you disown me
That I may submit petitions and entreat?

4. Or did you shield me from a draft of water,
Or did my own luck not aid me?

5. Or did you hide your providence from being seen
Bestowing on a wretch what you bestow?

6. If this be so, then love me for an instant,
Or if not, then hasten a benefactor to refuse me.

7. If I am not worthy of a draft,
Too small for my thanks or praise,

8. Oh what sorrow that I am so despised
As to drown in the affection of my friend!

9. You made my worth cheap, O lords,
As though you appraised your slave,

10. If this be my lot with you,
Then my lot is not so with me!
