1. Time insists on stirring the settled
And rousing the latent from the ruins

2. The loved ones who settled have migrated from it
So all bid it farewell wailing

3. Time has become, for you in them, cities
Perhaps wisely, if you abandon cities

4. So I see the nights violating no truce
In what they came with or attacked any refuge

5. They migrated your intimacy from a citadel’s dwellings
That were dwellings for other folk before

6. So restrain grief, Abu al-Husayn, for it was not
A thing empty which it left inhabited

7. What was not willed, do not want, and accept consolation's mines
Do not imprison grief in you, for it

8. Remains imprisoned, torturing its captive
And be patient as the King commanded, for only

9. The guarantor is guided when he obeys the creditor
And God will grant you eternity, dwelling

10. Near your brother in His Gardens and homes
After living a delightful life

11. Not like a mourner haughty between the wailers
Your friend did not die the day his tomb was visited

12. Rather, the day his equals and cradles were visited
Rather, since he was entrusted by his father and mother

13. To their depositories, so be perceptive of that
Or he may die before the sublime, above the soil

14. While eloquence converses and tongues speak
Your friend is dead, and to the dead

15. Is akin, amongst the dead, in-law and neighbor
The creatures died since their Lord elegized them

16. Rather, since an eye saw a companion leave
Do precedence and delay make

17. Your eyes' steeds of tears bolt?
Were you deluded about calamities before them

18. Or were you devoid of what you love as fortresses?
Rather, you were thinking of what you faced

19. As if you were there, witnessing
Why then do you recoil a beastly recoil

20. And count your fate as betraying you?
Fate did not betray, foretelling its caprices,

21. It did not cease sending warnings as warner
Calm your worries, O longevity’s ailment

22. Let not vile things or days affright us
Fate circles with its night and day

23. So it rotates the mills of annihilation
Contemplate the life, and do not wonder about it

24. And wonder at who settled to it leaning
Abu al-Abbas bid your yearning farewell

25. So you made your yearning tears pouring
And you wished to be the first joining him

26. Or you were guaranteed adjoining him
But that God refused, so do not want

27. What was undesired, and accept consolation’s burrows
Do not imprison grief in you, for it only

28. Remains imprisoned, torturing its jailer
And be patient as the Wise King commanded, so

29. The guide is given success when he obeys the obligated
And God will grant you eternity neighboring

30. Your brother in His Gardens and homes
After living a felicitous life

31. Not like a mourner lofty between wailers
Your friend did not die the day his tomb was visited

32. Rather, the day his counterparts and cradles were visited
Rather, since he was entrusted by his father and mother

33. To their repositories, so be aware of that
Rather, one may die before the sublime over the soil

34. While eloquence converses and tongues speak
Your friend is dead, and to the deceased

35. Is related, among the dead, in-law and neighbor
The creatures died since their Lord eulogized them

36. Rather, since an eye saw a companion leave
Do precedence and delay make

37. Your eyes’ steeds of tears race?
Were you deluded about calamities before them

38. Or were you devoid of what you love as fortresses?
Rather, you were contemplating what you faced

39. As if you were there, witnessing
Why then do you recoil a beastly recoil

40. And consider your fate betraying you?
Fate did not betray, foretelling its cycles,

41. It did not cease sending warnings as warner
Calm your worries, O longevity’s ailment

42. Let no vile things or days frighten us
Fate circles with its night and day

43. So it spins the annihilation’s mills
Contemplate the life, and do not wonder about it

44. And wonder at who settled to it leaning
For Abu al-Abbas I yearn, yearning of a hopeful

45. Whose agitation for fate aided
And the life’s vicissitudes are more deserving of my yearning

46. Than me, and more deserving of the hearts’ pulsations
I yearn for you for a dreaded route

47. In which you were not with the ignoble congruous
I yearn for you for enjoyments, when their times constricted

48. They constricted upon the departure, however spacious its plains
How many foes have you tamed, leaving

49. Your taming in them the healing salves
And an impregnable back that you loaded

50. Loading whom we did not subdue with our spears
So he became secure of heart, not resentful

51. And perhaps the foe yielded to you resentful
You possessed the necks, fearing fighting

52. And possessed the hearts of men, multitudes
Your conquests were all blessed

53. Coming while not leashed to misfortunes
With horses, but they remain placid

54. And white, but they remain dormant
Wondrous is your conquest with dormant swords

55. Those conquests, and with placid steeds
You never ceased avoiding bloodshed

56. So when they raged, they found you refraining
You sheathe the weapons, fearing sin and nobly

57. And remain with upright opinion leaning
So it is as if you are destiny whose person is hidden

58. And moves things listlessly still
And if you laid down the bow for a transgressor

59. He, if he willed, readied for archery its tools
And if you laid down the spear for an assailant

60. He, if he willed, prepared for the thrust its weapons
And if you laid down the sword for a striker

61. He, if he willed, set for hitting its places
The fighter proceeds inept, never adept

62. And you proceed adept, never inept
How many you conquered, addressing and addressed

63. That you feared strikers and thrusters
How many you overpowered, peaceful

64. Not shedding blood, but stanching it
You protected the imams from the disgrace of blood

65. And protected from what demolishes a pillar, obligated
You let them have their wealth, blood,

66. And women, leaving them cradles
And if they schemed, you would plot against them with schemes

67. More hidden than fate, the latent one, its hiding
How many eagle's claws you clipped

68. Clipping whom we did not fear his talons
And many an impenetrable back you burdened

69. Burdening whom we did not tame his fang
So he became safe of heart, not resentful

70. And perhaps the foe yielded to you resentful
You possessed the necks, fearing fighting

71. And possessed the hearts of men, multitudes
Your conquests were entirely auspicious

72. Arriving, unleashed on misfortunes
With horses, but they remain placid

73. And white, but they remain dormant
Wondrous is your sword-conquest, dormant

74. Those conquests, and with placid steeds
You never ceased avoiding blood

75. So when they raged, they found you refraining
You sheathe weapons, fearing sin and nobly

76. And remain with upright opinion leaning
So it is as if you are fate whose self is hidden

77. And moves things listlessly still
And if you laid the bow for a transgressor

78. He, if he willed, readied its tools
And if you laid the lance for an assailant

79. He, if he willed, set its hitting-places
And if you laid the sword for a striker

80. He, if he willed, prepared its locations
The fighter proceeds inept, never adept

81. And you proceed adept, never inept
How many you conquered, addressing and addressed

82. That you feared strikers and thrusters
How many you defeated, peaceful

83. Not shedding blood, but stanching
You protected the leaders from blood's disgrace

84. And protected from what destroys a pillar, obligated
You let them have their wealth, blood

85. And women, leaving them cradles
And were they to scheme, you would plot against them with schemes

86. More hidden than fate, the latent one, its hiding
You clipped many an eagle’s claws

87. Clipping whom we did not fear his talons
And many an impregnable back you burdened

88. Burdening whom we did not tame his fangs
So he became safe of heart, not resentful

89. And perhaps the foe to you yielded, resentful
You possessed the necks, fearing fighting

90. And possessed men's hearts, multitudes
Your conquests were entirely auspicious

91. Arriving, unleashed on misfortunes
With horses, but they remain placid

92. And white, but they remain dormant
Wondrous is your sword-conquest, dormant

93. Those conquests, and placid steeds
You never ceased avoiding bloodshed

94. So when they raged, they found you refraining
You sheathe weapons, nobly, fearing sin

95. And remain with upright opinion leaning
So you are like fate whose being is hidden

96. And stirs things while still motionless
And if for a trespasser you laid the bow

97. He could ready for archery its tools
And if for an assailant you laid the lance

98. He could set for the thrust its weapons
And if for a striker you laid the sword

99. He could prepare its hitting-spots
The fighter proceeds inept, never adept

100. While you proceed adept, never inept
How many by words you conquered, addressing, addressed

101. That you dreaded strikers and thrusters
How many discordant you defeated, peaceful

102. Not shedding blood, but stanching it
You protected the leaders from blood's disgrace

103. And protected what buttresses a pillar, obligated
You left them their wealth, blood

104. And women, leaving them cradles
And were they to scheme, against them you'd plot schemes

105. More hidden than fate, latent, its hiding
How many an eagle's claws you clipped

106. Clipping whom we did not fear his talons
And many an impregnable back you burdened

107. Burdening whom we did not tame his fangs
So he felt secure, not resentful

108. And perhaps to you the foe yielded, resentful
You possessed the necks, fearing fighting

109. And possessed the hearts of men, multitudes
You remedied ills, though ghastly

110. By the sword, rather than let ills become fair
So you set out to win hearts, reconciling

111. While others set out to make hearts adversarial
And more valid than possessing necks, for a master

112. Is possessing hearts by pleasing them, secured
So the kingdoms became felicitous that you empowered them

113. With the reign of peace, seemly, not base
You were blessed by pleasing the kings, and did not

114. Become intimate with them or familiar
You counselled them with an eye of advice

115. And stayed up late contemplating deeply
Advancing, delaying, ascending

116. Descending, flanking right, flanking left
Daring until it seemed you ignorantly

117. Deemed the lion a fleeing gazelle
Cautious until it seemed you were

118. A man of utmost cowardice or fleeing
Valour is casting off armor completely

119. And caution is armoring up fully
And both were in you, so you surpassed

120. The forerunners, contending
So the kings advanced you and you remained

121. For kings, by your like, buttressed
They rewarded you to become amidst their ribs

122. Having lodged you in breasts, resident
Remembering you for ages, the hearts’ pith

123. They tried to eternally dwell in you
This is for that, O Abu al-Husayn, and after him

124. Eulogizing you the sincere way, intrinsic
And I asked about you, so I said, our selves

125. Ransom the beautiful - façades and essence
You asked about one obscure in his religion

126. As no obscurity in his religion is seen
Hoarding praise early, preferring

127. Praise, his tunic has not ceased being thin
Whom you see morals in this abode as rabble

128. And nothing in it their equals missing
You meet him with close custom, drawing near

129. And you see him with distant repute, diverse
His virtues made you choose him, benevolent, lofty

130. As we scarcely see a benevolent, balanced
We tested, so we praise silence befitting him

131. Never and condemn a beauty deficient in him
And when we know not the outcome of a scheme

132. We remain asking him opinion divining
He heard prayer while others were obstinate

133. And heeded praise while being pure, purified
And he was careful with praise I gifted him

134. Nobly documenting it in his records
And loved my introducing it to him

135. So he was tempted, asking and discerning
He aids its meaning and articulates its words

136. Melodiously, in all of it, not distorted
And of fortune, that you call a hearing one

137. When supplicating, and perceive a perceiver
And when I, bent in your praise in my praise

138. And when does one see requiting praise, equitable?
You found me rugged, so you were my smoother

139. And saw me dishevelled, so you were the anointer
And I asked a people, so their gifts were miserly

140. And they indeed saw my time as long, prolonged
Yet all creation refused hosting me

141. While you hosted me until hosts you made me
They showed no excuse or hid any towns

142. Except you saw me commanding, not seeking
You are the one who sacrifices, and your home a Kaaba

143. Your hands made generosity in it residing
The spring of your favour encompassed all people

144. Until even the emaciated joined the fatted
You came across the banners of fame as miserable

145. Yet made them with the knowing like flags
And found our souls in them blameworthy

146. So you returned our souls in them praiseworthy
A favour you enlivened elders of a folk

147. And rescued from it fetuses and gardens
You gave until among straits

148. A naked one you furnished cushions warm
So he loves his life, though it was seen

149. Before your benefaction cursing it
Were you the eye of glory, you would be its blackness

150. Or were you the nose of glory, you would be its borer
Or if the spheres of sublimity were seven

151. You would breach them, ascending an eighth
Take them to you, O Abu al-Husayn, as if they were

152. Meadow bouquets worn one day scented
It scattered upon you the eulogy of it, as if
