2. From a transgressor who exceeded his bounds
So sins gathered upon him and sin

ูุงุฌุชู…ุน ุงู„ุฐู‘ูŽู†ู’ุจู ุนู„ูŠู‡ ูˆุงู„ุฐู‘ูŽู†ูŽุจู’

3. An upstart advanced rank after rank
Yet was not worthy of those ranks

ูฃ. ุนูู„ู’ุฌูŒ ุชุฑู‚ู‘ูŽู‰ ุฑุชุจุฉู‹ ููŽุฑูุชู’ุจุฉู‹
ูˆู„ู… ูŠูƒู† ุฃู‡ู„ุงู‹ ู„ู‡ุงุชูŠูƒ ุงู„ุฑู‘ูุชูŽุจู’

4. So he slipped from those high places a slip
And woke up wounded by that stumble

5. And so every rise in status
Is fresh after a rise in hardship

ูฅ. ูˆู‡ูƒุฐุง ูƒู„ู‘ู ุงุฑุชู‚ุงุกู ููŠ ุงู„ุนู„ุง
ู‚ุฑูŠุจู ุนู‡ุฏู ุจุงุฑุชู‚ุงุก ููŠ ุงู„ูƒูุฑูŽุจู’

6. God granted him success yet he was ungrateful
And you never see gratitude for inherited fortune

ูฆ. ุฎูŽูˆู‘ูŽู„ู‡ ุงู„ู„ู‘ู‡ู ูู„ู… ูŠุดูƒุฑ ู„ู‡
ูˆู„ู† ุชุฑู‰ ุดูƒุฑุงู‹ ู„ู…ุฏุฎูˆู„ ุงู„ู†ุณูŽุจู’

7. So God unleashed his ignorance upon him
And it was the strongest cause of his ruin

8. An army approached that did not want his war
So he panicked, a panic that seizes the wary

ูจ. ุฃู‚ุจู„ ุฌูŠุดูŒ ู„ุง ูŠุฑูŠุฏ ุญุฑุจูŽู‡ู
ูุงุฑุชุงุน ุฑูˆุนุงู‹ ูŠุนุชุฑูŠ ุฃู‡ู„ูŽ ุงู„ุฑู‘ููŠูŽุจู’

9. And suspected a minister who had not betrayed
A pact, and does hidden gold ever tarnish?

ูฉ. ูˆุณุงุก ุธู†ุงู‹ ุจูˆุฒูŠุฑ ู„ู… ูŠูŽุฎูู†
ุนู‡ุฏุงู‹ ูˆู‡ู„ ูŠุตุฏุฃ ู…ูƒู†ูˆู†ู ุงู„ุฐู‡ูŽุจู’

10. He left no command that did not lead to his doom
Racing towards it, then falling into turmoil

ูกู . ูู„ู… ูŠุฏุน ุฃู…ุฑุงู‹ ูŠู‚ูˆุฏู ุญุชููŽู‡ู
ุฅู„ู‘ุง ุฃุชุงู‡ู ุฌุงู‡ุฏุงู‹ ุซู… ุงุถุทุฑุจู’

11. He was like one who feared an impending blaze
So he added more wood to the fire

ูกูก. ูƒุงู† ูƒู…ู† ุฎุงููŽ ุญุฑูŠู‚ุงู‹ ูˆุงู‚ุนุงู‹
ูุฒุงุฏ ููŠู‡ ุญุทุจุงู‹ ุนู„ู‰ ุญูŽุทูŽุจู’

12. Imagine him cloaked in a piece of it
Engulfing him without even flames

ูกูข. ุฃูŽุฎู„ูู‚ู’ ุจุฃู† ุชุบุดุงู‡ู ู…ู†ู‡ ู‚ุทุนุฉูŒ
ูŠุฃุชูŠ ุนู„ูŠู‡ ู„ูุญูู‡ุง ุฏูˆู† ุงู„ู„ู‘ู‡ูŽุจู’

13. Look at him and his leadership
For in it is a wonder of wonders

ูกูฃ. ุงู†ุธุฑู’ ุฅู„ูŠู‡ู ูˆุฅู„ู‰ ุชุฏุจูŠุฑู‡ู
ูุฅู† ููŠู‡ ุนุฌุจุงู‹ ู…ู† ุงู„ุนูŽุฌูŽุจู’

14. He frightened a child, though frightening him
Was not prudent, nor seizing the spoils

ูกูค. ุฑูˆู‘ูŽุนูŽ ุทูู„ุงู‹ ู„ู… ูŠูƒู† ุชุฑูˆูŠุนูู‡ู
ู…ู† ุงู„ู…ูุฏุงุฑุงุฉ ูˆู„ุง ุฃุฎุฐู ุงู„ุฃูู‡ูŽุจู’

15. He angered the lords, an anger that drove him
To meet anger from God that was warranted

ูกูฅ. ูˆุฃุณุฎุทูŽ ุงู„ุณุงุฏุฉ ุณูุฎุทุงู‹ ุณุงู‚ูŽู‡ู
ุชู„ู‚ุงุกูŽู‡ู ุณูุฎุทูŒ ู…ู† ุงู„ู„ู‘ู‡ ูˆูŽุฌูŽุจู’

16. Then he saw his opinion did not succeed
So he released the child and spent the night anxious

ูกูฆ. ุซู… ุฑุฃู‰ ุฃู†ู’ ู„ู… ูŠููˆูู‘ูŽู‚ ุฑุฃูŠูู‡ู
ูุฃุทู„ู‚ูŽ ุงู„ุทูู„ูŽ ูˆุฃู…ุณู‰ ููŠ ุฑูŽู‡ูŽุจู’

17. Now he lives between fear and chaos
From what he did, or between fear and war

ูกูง. ูู‡ูˆ ู…ู‚ูŠู…ูŒ ุจูŠู† ุฎูˆูู ูˆุฑุฏู‰
ู…ู…ุง ุฃุชู‰ ุฃูˆ ุจูŠู† ุฎูˆู ูˆุญูŽุฑูŽุจู’

18. And so the ignorant man has never ceased
To toil and struggle due to his ignorance

ูกูจ. ูˆู‡ูƒุฐุง ุงู„ุฌุงู‡ู„ู ู‚ูุฏู…ุงู‹ ู„ู… ูŠุฒู„
ู…ู† ุฌู‡ู„ูู‡ู ููŠ ุชูŽุนุจู ูˆููŠ ู†ุตูŽุจู’

19. He bought a long pillow for a short slumber
And bought long tranquility for toil

ูกูฉ. ู‚ุฏ ุงุดุชุฑู‰ ุทูˆู„ูŽ ุณู‡ุงุฏู ุจูƒูŽุฑู‰ู‹
ูˆู‚ุฏ ุดูŽุฑู‰ ุทูˆู„ูŽ ู‡ุฏูˆุกู ุจุชุนูŽุจู’

20. I compared his claim to take the place of him
Who was entrusted with command to the Arabsโ€™ claim

ูขู . ุดูŽุจู‘ูŽู‡ู’ุชู ุฏุนูˆุงู‡ ุงู„ู‚ูŠุงู… ุจุงู„ุฐูŠ
ู‚ูู„ู‘ูุฏ ู…ู† ุฃู…ุฑู ุจุฏุนูˆุงู‡ ุงู„ุนุฑูŽุจู’

21. When I was told of his affliction
And that he was in gasps and hardship

ูขูก. ู‚ุฏ ู‚ู„ุชู ุฅุฐ ุฎูุจู‘ูุฑุช ุนู† ุชุจู„ูŠุญู‡ู
ูˆุฃู†ู‡ ููŠ ุฒูุฑุงุชู ูˆูƒูุฑูŽุจู’

22. Away with one who found himself in such a state
On high peaks at night, but in ravines by day

ูขูข. ุจูุนู’ุฏุงู‹ ู„ู…ู† ุฃุตุจุญ ู…ู† ุฃุญูˆุงู„ู‡ู
ููŠ ุตูŽุนูŽุฏู ุนุงู„ู ูˆุฃู…ุณู‰ ููŠ ุตูŽุจูŽุจู’

23. Of what use is a horse for him, deflated,
With neither escape nor advance

ูขูฃ. ู…ุง ูุนู„ุชู’ ุฎูŠู„ูŒ ู„ู‡ ู‚ุฏ ุถูู…ู‘ูุฑุชู’
ุฃู…ุง ู„ุฏูŠู‡ุง ู‡ุฑุจูŒ ูˆู„ุง ุทูŽู„ูŽุจู’

24. Nay, his cowardice bars its attack
While his shame bars him from flight

ูขูค. ุจู„ ุฌุจู†ูู‡ู ูŠู…ู†ุนูู‡ุง ุฅู‚ุฏุงู…ูŽู‡ุง
ูˆุญูŽูŠู’ู†ูู‡ู ูŠู…ู†ุนู‡ ู…ู† ุงู„ู‡ุฑูŽุจู’

25. How ugly are blessings dressed in their garb
And how fine the blessings stripped from him

ูขูฅ. ู…ุง ุฃู‚ุจุญ ุงู„ู†ู‘ูŽุนู…ุงุกูŽ ูŠููƒู’ุณูŽู‰ ุซูˆุจูŽู‡ุง
ูˆุฃุญุณู†ูŽ ุงู„ู†ุนู…ุงุกูŽ ุนู†ู‡ ุชูุณุชูŽู„ุจู’

26. What he was given was not from his earning
But he lost it by what he acquired

ูขูฆ. ู…ุง ูƒุงู† ู…ุง ุฃุนุทููŠูŽู‡ู ู…ู† ูƒุณุจูู‡ู
ู„ูƒู†ู‡ู ูุงุฑู‚ูŽู‡ู ุจู…ุง ุงูƒุชุณุจู’

27. O you who hide blessings, be sure
God is angry with it, total anger

ูขูง. ูŠุง ุบุงู…ูุทูŽ ุงู„ู†ุนู…ุฉ ุฃูŠู‚ูู†ู’ ุฃู†ู‡ุง
ู‚ุฏ ุบูŽุถูุจูŽ ุงู„ู„ู‘ู‡ ู„ู‡ุง ูƒู„ู‘ูŽ ุงู„ุบุถุจู’

28. And you will never see God as ally to one
Who opposed the father of falcons, the eminent vizier

ูขูจ. ูˆู„ู† ุชุฑู‰ ุงู„ู„ู‘ู‡ ูˆู„ูŠุงู‹ ู„ุงู…ุฑุฆู
ุนุงุฏู‰ ุฃุจุง ุงู„ุตู‚ุฑ ุงู„ูˆุฒูŠุฑ ุงู„ู…ูู†ุชูŽุฌูŽุจู’

29. And all who opposed the rightly guided one proceeding
Will find his affair in turmoil

ูขูฉ. ูˆูƒู„ู‘ู ู…ู† ุนุงุฏู‰ ู…ูุญู‚ู‘ุงู‹ ู…ู‚ุจู„ุงู‹
ูุฅู†ู‡ ู…ู† ุฃู…ุฑู‡ ููŠ ูˆูŽูƒูŽุชูŽุจู’

30. And praise be to God, great in esteem
For what He has worn out, entrusted, and granted
