1. I tested my poetry with Abilu, how obedient it was to me,
And I said, can this be done with Solomon?

2. It came to me in it willingly, not disputing with me,
And I did not leave it to come in two verses.

3. So I said, as for this, the son of his obedience,
I will reward him with kindness for kindness.

4. And I do not think the companion of time will reward him
With the like of my praise of him, Yahya ibn Khaqan.
