١. أدركتُ بالحزم والتدبير ما عجزتْ
عنه ملوكُ بني مروانَ إذ حشدوا
2. Though they amassed their forces
I kept pursuing them in their own land
٢. ما زلتُ أسعى عليهم في ديارِهم
والقومُ في غفلةٍ بالشام قد رقدوا
3. While the people in Syria slept unaware
Until I overwhelmed them with the sword and they awoke
٣. حتى علوتهُمُ بالسيف فانتبهوا
من رقْدةٍ لم يَنَمْها قبلَهم أحدُ
