God’s way you choose, from harm and wrong afar

And people’s praise for goodness you unbar

I tore the claws and fangs of fate bizarre

5. Each care I mastered, sorrow cast aside
No more they gnaw, provoke or leave a scar

6. My prayer that you remain throughout all time
While solid stand the pillars of Khabar

7. Yet still a woman dominates and steals
My lands, though stranger sights the world did mar

8. Al-Muraqqish’s verse reminds of her
For none so vanquished as the vanquished are

9. To women yield the feeble, not the brave
Their conquest but for jest and games that jar

10. We know her seizure was unjust, not right
Yet she, in anger, spares the wise no bar

11. O’er the infatuated she holds sway
No power o’er hearts of men sedate and star

12. To you, O Habb’s descendants, my complaint
Save to the cultured minister bizarre

13. By God, you have denied me justice due
Stray not, resent not, from the rightful par

14. A lion he who tears the unjust fox
Yet not the lion would the fox debar

15. Minister of faith and realm, hear my plea
To you I flee, escape is no bizarre

16. A hostile band against me schemed and planned
When pillars weak, what gain in bizarre?

17. Abomination twin-faced: theft and wrong
In twin-faced evil what secure bizarre?

18. How oft your temper flared defending right
To smite transgression with hard blows that jar

19. Then to my enemies betray me not
“A rabbit to the falcon do not bar!”

20. My house I want again, some lawful way,
Grace, wisdom, lead me from this fetid star

21. To wrest one’s right from grasping thief, whose claws
Are fixed and clenched, is feat extremely bizarre

22. A sentence just by one judge is a stroke
Of favor generous – a fine bizarre

23. When justice and grace in one hand combine
For chieftains that is precious and most star

24. Your view to solve my case, wise, apt and bold
As victory by Mashnun o’er Judhar

25. No! Till my darkening plight dispelled I see
A thousand slaves and steeds for me unbar

26. Grieves me that though beloved, brought near
No loved-one’s leave for me they would unbar

27. High in your heart I stood, but now within
Your house bewildered, fallen from your star

28. A rank I need to bring my foes to heel
And your permission twixt me and debar

29. Lacking such hope from you, I should renounce
All hope, seek not your noble door ajar

30. Then do not let decriers hinder me
Else I’d not have endured such strains bizarre

31. I sought from none but you my prayer and hope
By God, not greed or lust did me debar

32. Meet my ambition, you believed my hope
Then why not more fulfill, my wishes star?

33. God makes hope real. But from the best I sought
Increase of bounty, gifts without bizarre.

34. O obscure me in death’s oblivion
Your hand with man unsparing, unbizarre
