1. I have a cloak that leaves me not
Though it has neither wealth nor youth
١. لي طيلسانٌ ليس يترك لي
رَفْوي له مالاً ولا نَشَبا
2. A song that makes one region sing
And rends another's heart with joy
٢. طِرْبٌ تُغنِّي منه ناحيةٌ
وتشُقُّ أخرى جيبَها طربا
3. How can I mend its tattered state
When if I patch its tatters, they unravel
٣. كيف السبيلُ إلى عِمارتهِ
وإذا عَمَرْتُ خرابَهُ خَرِبا
4. Ibn Harb's son, when generous,
Gave me this cloak, wanting to fight
٤. كان ابنُ حربٍ حين جادَ به
لا شك فيه يُريد بي الحَرَبا
