A newborn's crying is inevitable

2. Else why would he weep, for it is
More spacious than where he once dwelled

As if seeing the harm that awaits him

4. When I was born, it seemed to me
I saw all the sorrows you've sent me

5. Sometimes, souls seem to see
Behind the veil, what they expect

6. To a face, once fair, now gloomy
And dark, I say what I reflect

7. O face, whose waters have run dry
Though once it flowed gracefully

8. Endure disgrace for your greed
Thus is the face of gluttony

9. Twenty times, water I offered
But greed scattered what I collected

10. So do not act proud if you beg
All greedy men are humbled

11. You tried to rouse fate heedlessly
Fate sleeps not, as you believed

12. Had seekers strained for their fortune
It would still fall as destined

13. Did you think God, glory to Him,
Needed your handiwork?

14. How can one boast
whose death bed

15. is eternity's berth?
He belongs to Him

16. and to Him returns
His brother and dependent

17. None are free of Him
save when powerless

18. Then to the soil He relegates
And it obediently takes

19. If it resists His decree
It doubtless will be defeated

20. Then a loving voice makes it
As if it were deaf, hear

21. A man's disgrace and anguish
Are to serve a tyrant
