1. I came to Abu Janadah seeking refuge,
Yet some of what hopes expect will fail.

2. So I entertained my soul with yearning, which then slaked
Its thirst with that cup containing the purest wine.

3. Then he offered the weakest excuses, lies and denial -
The very excuses which the truthful spurn.
