1. The worthiest wealth is that which makes its owner generous,
A gift that elicits prompt gratitude,

2. So now bestow complete praise,
And reap behind the thought abundant rewards.

3. And divide for us, O eminent one, a fair share,
The divine portion grants you virtues,

4. And regard not your deed as fruitless,
If you oblige a needy friend in trouble,

5. With a request which a beggar implored,
But excel and harmonize with excellent thanks,

6. Neither the weak nor the mighty will be daunted,
From bestowing the few gifts,

7. Who has attained abundant favors,
And was, in custom, a pouring cloud,

8. Followed by voluntary good deeds.
Whether he hit the right or missed the mark,

9. Far be it that my view should go astray,
And I attack people saying,

10. And you attack the most invincible maker.
I swear had I not been a transgressor,

11. Blind to jest, utterly heedless,
Ignorance would oblige me, though I am no ignorant,

12. That I have defamed an eminent man,
Around whom the noble steeds roam not distracted,

13. I made the rain pour from them overflowing,
The buttocks into heads and the tails into shoulders,

14. Until you see them scattered fragmented,
Rising stars, not setting,

15. Sought by throngs and gatherings,
Bestowing their bounty on friends,

16. And their evil on enemies,
And bequeathing their envious foes misery and loss.

17. No hosts have marched in contradiction,
