1. The miser starves his guests,
And denies them the reward of fasting.

2. He sends the boy to turn them away,
So the boy's master is insulted.

3. They break their fast yet are not fed,
While fasting they are steeped in sin.

4. Stingily he schemes for them to break
Their fast with foul words, not food.

5. He came in meanness from his creation,
And perfected stinginess to its end.
