1. You are excess and the excess of a thing is vain
Then you were followed by the humbleness of diminution

2. The excess was belittled then made smaller than it
May Allah increase you, O tiny despicable one

3. Then you limped so shortcoming contained you
In an evil condition and a wretched blind body

4. Then you were cooled so you got relief from the fire
With a coolness that is nurtured by the bitter cold

5. So people's acceptance of you in my view
Is a sign in you of the Subtle, the Expert

6. That a people have become, you move about among them
Perhaps according to a plan of subjugation

7. Or people who have come and gone, sought refuge
In the state of the poor, dignified, calm one

8. So when they are coated with elegant lies
They are amazed by the adornments of fraud

9. Like bedouins who have not seen your splendid pearls
So they glorify barley bread

10. And so the people have not seen the radiance of the sea
Yet they extol the water of the pond

11. O heavy upon hearts, light
In scales, less than the weight of carob

12. Wretched, fallen condemned, soon passing
Like chaff and at times like motes

13. I swear by God that your weight to me
Is less than the weight of carob and seeds

14. I do not think you despicable but without doubt
You are from the most despicable of the despicable
