1. I saw a blind porter stumbling
Among valleys and pits

2. Bearing a heavy load on his head
Too much for his skin's endurance

3. Among lazy good-for-nothings
Who slept away from glory

4. He lives in shameful condition among them
Though all live in luxury

5. Each one bumps into him intentionally
Or wanders about without purpose

6. Yet the miserable wretch submits
More servile than any slave

7. Not that he desired this but
He fled hardship for effort

8. He fled to bear his burden in weakness
From stinginess of the glutton

9. So I seek refuge in Allah and the free man
My father Saad the generous

10. The steadfast, open-handed one who
Is always watered in fertile Jad

11. The trustworthy one true to his word
Though he acts without promises

12. The inheritor of glorious ancestors
Of glory before and after

13. Who spends wealth freely when asked
And takes the middle course

14. Loyal in covenant but he
Ascends from covenant to covenant

15. Exchanging one covenant for another
His resolve firmly tied

16. The brilliant witty one, loud thunder
Avoids idle prattle

17. He hides his nobility yet spreads it
In wilderness and settlement

18. The most stubborn people for blessings on him
Grow blinder in ingratitude
