1. Among the wonders, O Abu Al-Fayyad,
Is your changing favor to disfavor.

2. Rebuke me for what you saw, for it is
An illness you have been afflicted with from illnesses.

3. It is not because your injustice saddened me
Rather, I grieved for your defeated opinion.

4. O you whose craft is inviting to glory,
Yet contradicted in your actions any integrity.

5. Is abandoning loyalty to a companion,
Whom adversity has not made fail to give, of glory?

6. Wondrous is the exhorter to generosity upon one
Who needs an exhorter himself.

7. He described generosity while indifferent to it
And saw beauty yet ignored it.

8. I have not found most poets present
And more blameworthy upon the debauched.

9. How many among them order decency
Yet do not practice it, and promote chastity.

10. Oh what a pity! A refined affection
We did not part from with mutual consent.

11. Reproach is not beneficial with one who cuts off;
Old age has exhausted continuous shearing.

12. Now after your betrayal my guide realizes
That lightning is a false omen.

13. Take from your ropes what you broke, companion
Of violation and demolition.

14. In what time has granted you of advice
Compensation and loyalty from you are owed the aggrieved.

15. Affection is a right I have not seen
Its fulfillment facilitated to a demander.

16. Wealth has made you stone drunk,
So repel its insolence to the meadows.

17. Oh evil to you! If your means are too narrow for wealth
When donning its billowing shirt.

18. You have arranged your worth beneath what you possess;
No injustice - you are the most just judge over it.

19. We are not angry with you for a blameworthy scheme
By which you harm yourself yet are pleased.

20. For if you harvest the fruit of generosity, you will find me
Frowning with a cheerful face.

21. O you who did wrong to the sweetest fruit!
Why do I see you like one who eats bitter colocynth?

22. Do not be fooled by what you gained, for you were not
Before it one driven by determination.

23. The grave of my father was once open
For you to wander in its abundant sea.

24. You have shown me the rope of arrogance, so beware
Lest you rightfully spend a night writhing in labor.

25. When I censured you, rather advised you, I do not
Make reputations like toys.

26. So restrain your arrows from your brother, for
You have saddened him, and he shunned you.

27. And when you censure, justly reproaching you,
He is resolved in censuring you back.

28. Know that if you encounter one whom
You forbade from this, you will encounter terrible terrain.

29. And if you exhale with a breath of censure
That exceeds proper bounds,

30. I am not forbearing with the foolish one, O spiteful brother,
No - and not forgiving to the debauched.

31. Events have tested me as valiant,
Leaving wounds on me that time remains bandaging.

32. I am one who sees residence here as baseless joy
And meets misdeeds with wisdom.

33. So let the scabby be cured! I am not like those
Whose dwelling is so far from fervor.

34. I am one whom you have heard of, and that is enough
Experience for you about this decisive brother.

35. So when I am forbearing, you will find the kindest time,
And when I am ignorant, you will be defeated.

36. Excuse your brother for the threat, for I only
Warn before shooting arrows.

37. I warned my arrows that if unleashed,
They will leave no trace of honor.

38. And know, you were shielded from ignorance, that
Baseness coupled wealth and humiliated the highbred.
