شكري عتيد وكذاك حقدي

1. My gratitude and hatred alike endure,
Good and evil both have a place with me.

١. شكري عتيدٌ وكذاك حِقْدِي
للخير والشرِّ بقاءٌ عندي

2. So see what you reap when you sow your seed,
For my nature is just the same as my creed.

٢. فانظر إذا أسْديتَ ماذا تُسْدِي
فإن شكمي مثله وشكدي

3. Like the earth whatever is sown in its stead
It faithfully yields as was destined to be.

٣. كالأرض مهما استُودِعت تؤدِّي
وأين عن طينتنا نُعَدِّي

4. How can we swerve from the clay we were kneaded,
What's sown cannot sprout but rather impede it.

٤. وما طباعي بالطباع الصلدِ
لا ينبت البذرُ ولكن يُكدي

5. For friend and for foe alike I will keep,
All the love and the hate they entrusted me,

٥. أحفظُ للأعداء والأودِّ
ما استودعوا من بِغْضَةٍ ووُدِّ

6. And whatever they came with of harm or true heed,
Better a pool than rain channels of Nejd,

٦. وما أتوا من غَيَّةٍ ورشْدِ
وخيرُ حوض من حياض نجدِ

7. I'll keep it for water on days parched of need,
Be it pure or murky or evil indeed.

٧. أحفظُها للماء يوم الوِرْدِ
من طَيِّبٍ وآجنٍ وسُخْدِ

8. What more can be said after all I concede!

٨. ماذا يقول القائلون بعدي
