1. The invitation of fish has become difficult for us
How is your existence the guarantor of sustenance?

2. O you whose shooting star's light shone
Illuminating the darkness of the starry night

3. Remember the guidance Allah promised us
Leave stillness for Him into motion

4. And know you've been protected from ignorance
In a palace, followed by fish landing places

5. While bounty is from your shared palms
Your bounty remains unshared

6. And the sanctity of your wealth is truly violated
Yet your honor remains inviolate

7. Customs you grant to evil tongues
The best belongings and most virtuous leavings

8. My praise is not dismissed
Nor my request left unanswered

9. The daughters of the Tigris in your courtyard
Are captives in every fray

10. Covered with coats of mail, sometimes
With window screens, at others

11. As white as ingots, nay
Filled out with fat like bubbles

12. They make adornments superfluous
And scent the cooking pots with musk

13. Their looks are fair, their flesh delicious
Like the berries of chained bunches

14. The pregnant she-camel watches them
Restless, troubled, worn down

15. Sucking from you generously
O kin of mankind, not stonily

16. The dairy-ewes were gifts that went
Once they passed the uvula

17. Faithfully we cast them in a stomach
Not for progeny cast in a cattle-pen

18. They went leaving us needing successors
From a master like the moon in its orbit

19. Thus were all the eateries made
Sweet anew with sweetness

20. These are no lasting robes
Like moss, fish, and fenugreek

21. While those are lasting provisions for us
And supplies like travelers on the roads

22. So let the hunter catch our needs
And our affection without rivalry
