1. In Jullanar and her sister Dubsiyya
O son of the minister, for one who is reproached

2. You brought me Jullanar, and Dubsiyya the elder was brought
For another, to be shunned by me

3. So I reproached in a way that sufficed
Then I turned to what was more proper

4. I suppressed with forbearance every vexation
From your injustice, and forgave what is not usually forgiven

5. And I thought your repentance afterwards was sincere
Though one who assumes may be wrong in their judgement

6. But your injustice brought upon me a day
Of bitterness, as God knows, Sabusbu

7. A day called thus when another is nicknamed
Rather, another is nicknamed and titled

8. Encompassing generosity for a group
Other than me, and in less than that, anger

9. My lords, why should I be averse to her
Whom I desire, yet persist with one I shun

10. Witnesses on the day of the foolish one being coveted
And witnesses on the day of the hated one being sought

11. You reminded me with one I bestowed
An example surely being set for the like of me

12. That when she is hated I should be called to her
And when shame is sensed, a beetle is called
