1. To stop an envier envying,
And the liver he prays with,
١. لِيَكفِكَ حاسداً حَسَدُهْ
وما تَصْلى به كَبِدُهْ
2. If I set him on fire,
It would be less than what he feels,
٢. فلو أسْعرته ناراً
لكانت دون ما يجدُهْ
3. And he who envies me closely,
With malice beneath his eyelids,
٣. وذي حسدٍ يكاشِرُني
وتحت جَنانه رَصدُهْ
4. When he remembers me at night,
The fever of Khaibar burns him,
٤. يبيتُ إذا تذكَّرني
وحمّى خَيْبَرٍ تَرِدُهْ
5. And he throws me angry looks,
May his eyes be forever sore,
٥. ويرمَدُ حين يبصرني
فَدام بعينه رَمدُهْ
6. I care not if he perishes,
For I do not rely on him.
٦. أصيبُ سَواء مقتله
على أنْ لستُ أعتمدُهْ
