1. You were struck with calamities in which I was extremely cruel
With much audacity and lamentations towards you
١. أُصِبْتَ مصائبَ كنتُ الشري
ك فيها الكثير السخا والشجونِ
2. So why am I to you as if I
Was the one who afflicted you with them without doubt of fate
٢. فما لي لديك كأني الذي
رماك بها دونَ رَيْبِ المَنون
3. May God water those we cried over their death
With sorrow for your misfortunes with abundant, flowing tears
٣. سقَى اللَّه موتى بَكيناهُمُ
أسىً لأَساكَ بدمعٍ هتُون
4. For they have cut between us
And you the rope of secure connection
٤. على أنّهم قطعوا بيننا
وبينك حبلَ وصالٍ أَمون
5. You blame me because time
Inclines away from them with abundant grace
٥. عتبتَ عليّ لأن الزما
ن ينحى عليهم ببَرْكٍ طَحون
6. If only we could have protected them
And guarded them for you between the eyelids
٦. ولو نستطيع وقَيْناهُمُ
وصناهمُ لك بين الجفون
7. And if these had come from anyone but you
It would have been an object of the conjectures' stoning
٧. ولو مِنْ سواكَ أتَتْ هذه
لأصبح نصْباً لرجْم الظنون
8. And it was said even if he was wise
An aberration of madness has struck him
٨. وقيل وإن كان ذا حكمةٍ
أصابته طائفةٌ من جُنون
