1. I did not explain its strangeness to you, but
No man is ignorant of strangeness except you.

2. You are too high to be taught knowledge,
And the range of the learned extends your range.

3. Except that I hoped the fortune of my poetry
When your eyes would pasture its meadows.

4. So I explained the strangeness in it hoping
That one day it would quench your thirst.

5. Or else someone else of your loved ones who
Is not racing with you in knowledge.

6. It is not out of pride that I determined that, but
I hope for your good opinion in that.

7. So make excuses for me while you are praiseworthy,
Along with what you extend of your generosity.
