1. I praise God morning, evening, and night
Constantly, and in between, with gratitude

2. Great praise for His tremendous majesty
From a thankful servant of the Giver of bounty

3. A King who grants life from death
And in His grace sustains the living

4. He formed us, then sustained us and protected us
With faith that guards us from harm

5. With shelter, clothing, and medicine against disease
Then granted us fruits of every kind

6. Magnificent are those gifts
So praise the banana, leave other things

7. For when you hold a banana
Its name changes "m" to "f"

8. And when the dear one is lost to us
Its name changes "z" to "t"

9. So it is winning, just as losing it is death
Its merit is clear, not hidden

10. For this meaning it's called "mawz"
By the Wise Namer of things

11. My Lord, make it for me morning and eve
And lunch and whatever food I lack

12. And I see - no, I insist - that my response
Does not cheat, for you asked for permanence

13. God is my witness, it is delicious food
That caresses the intestines

14. A sweet, delicious taste
Helping blessing upon blessing

15. You'd think it melts into the channels
Where virgins sleep in bliss

16. If hearts were home to food
It would vie with our guts for space

17. Truly I'm filled with sated longing
Though it be only water I ate

18. From the gifts of my father Muhammad
Kindly, wise, and generous

19. Beautiful, glorious, faithful, and pure
The master who killed despair with his bounty

20. And brought hope to life
Who pleased me, nurtured me, cared for me, sufficed me

21. Wrong misses him, for he did no wrong
And woes all glanced off, though aimed behind him

22. While through him the heavens of glory rose high
Or the heavens deemed his glory their heaven

23. A king wearing the long robe of life
Blessed, provider for saints

24. By Him who endowed me with access
To give him radiant praises

25. I will ever laud him with my thoughts
Or pour them out as inspiration

26. God forbid that reluctant praise
Should come, but only willing tribute

27. And see us praising him, how we are
Like lamplight elucidating light

28. What shining lit lamp adds light to light
Unless we are fools?

29. Except we channel praise to heighten
Through his name our rise and fame

30. Ranks like which our ancestors never girded us
We hope to bequeath them to our sons

31. May his glory not leave us but convey
Glory to sons that humbled ancestors
