1. Not for you but for others this interpretation,
How can the stranger understand his ancestor?

2. My words I do not translate, your words I do,
Even if I get a share in them.

3. Do I know him yet am not his relative?
You are ignorant of him yet you are his kin.

4. God forbid that this should be thought
By the refined or the uncouth.

5. Nay, I translated my poetry for a people
Whose eloquent poetry is fetching.

6. May they overlook any flaws,
And if asked, a respondent will respond.

7. If they stray, a guide is near,
And if they ask him, they will find him answering.
