1. Loyalty lamented betrayal when it saw
Ahmad ibn Ali's stance towards the sun

2. Who can hope for loyalty after him
For the loyal minister, reward of the loyal

3. A full moon shone for the sun one day
So a glorious woman wept for the glorious man

4. Who can refrain from grieving the loss of sanctity
The like of him, glory is none other

5. O you who gloat, displaying gloating without end
You pray with the shivering of the most ardent prayers

6. May his eyes veil you like his position
And with some of that one would be other than blameless

7. The calamities of his time befell his traits
So they evaded the belief of one easy-going

8. Of the brave and stern one, and the one
Whose manner never faulted with jest

9. Of the bitter and sweet one, and the one
Who was never given a trait that makes weary

10. And the minister son of the minister refused for him
Other than preserving his original glory

11. But almost out of intense zeal he thought
To adopt the view of one withdrawn

12. And if Abu Isa protected sanctimoniously
He rendered permitted the stronghold and its people

13. May God maintain for us Al-Alaa enjoying
His verbal and practical supremacy

14. For God knows and humanity after him
And the knowledge of the One Eternal suffices

15. No world wherein was his like did damage
Can any but him be adorned with adornment

16. Of serene beauty of countenance, and fully
Informing speech, and clearly reasoned logic

17. He combined youth and integrity, and did not sell
The winner's bliss for the pleasure of flirtation
