1. People bear burdens in what they are tasked,
With the noble, it must be settled.

2. And the poets' burdens are in their poetry -
Spending lifetimes and forgoing sleep.

3. Shunning pleasures and refusing gains -
If left alone, protected from harm.

4. Preoccupied from mentioning a Lord who never ceased
Bestowing beautiful favors and blessings.

5. If a group were busy serving you,
Serving them is more beneficial than servants.

6. Should that not be an inviolable pasture?
The noble then would not be noble.

7. I did not expect reward from you for my praise,
O son of the most generous people.

8. If my praise were an expectation, I would not dress
Anyone more deserving of it than orphans.

9. So accept praise and reward it,
Or leave it to a despondent gambler.

10. Do not accept praise then deny it
While poets remain sleepless.

11. And beware their defiance when brought near,
For they have the most defiance of the naked.

12. Know that if they are not treated justly,
They will judge for themselves over rulers.

13. The darkness of one hostile to them passes,
Yet their punishment remains through days.
