1. Let your cheerful tune be unaccompanied,
Free the imagination for it is exuberant.

2. The dawn stripped it bare of its cover,
So it began to scream with flowing tears.

Strutting about in delight and glimpses of passion.

4. So it wept and hung its head in humility,
Lamenting like a fervent lover.

A crucified corpse without shrouds.

6. The nights tore off its arms and leapt up
Wearing it down in wrath and rebuke.

7. And if it kneeled, I found it worshipping,
Its secrets purified of hypocrisy.

8. Its prostrations at the spring were kisses of devotion
Imprinted on the chain of the unleashed.

9. The streams offered the flowers its drink
And lent its tears to the heart of the countryside.

10. So it remains thirsty, naked, while the flowers
Bloom, and the field’s plants grow lush.

11. Collapsing on the deep ravine as if
A blind man on the verge of a fatal fall.

12. The havoc frightened the tyrant so his ribs
Shrank from the blow of terror.

13. It imagined itself in a fanciful delirium
An ogre wearied of the horrors in graves.

14. So the shrouds lent the fury of a wrathful one

16. The cawing of crows warns of its doom
With ruinous drought and arid autumn.

17. And the shepherd’s flute lulls it nearby
A heart that strays with its composed tune.

18. Intoxicated by the melodies, its singing inebriated
Ears longing and hearing benumbed.

19. If only a gust from a miserable one
Yearning in the bosom of valleys wrapped,

20. Watered the plants with a shower of his tears,
