And stood with tightened reins,

6. To the light, to the resurrection, onwards,
To your imminent victorious might,

7. And your enduring ancient glory.
You stormed with fire and iron,

8. And returned to the light anew,
Baghdad, O fortress of lions.

9. O Arabs who overwhelmed the nights,
And crushed the rock of impossibilities,

10. Join the processions of resurrection and ascension,
To the morsel of victory in existence,

11. Return to your days and promises,
Like the dawn in your glorious march,

12. Baghdad, O fortress of lions.
God has announced in His sublime,

13. That the East shall rise from its sorrows,
And the night shall depart from its sky,

14. And the sun shall shine anew,
From our distant rebellious past,
