1. Praise be to God, who guided us
To know the chosen ones among our sheikhs

2. The sheikh has twelve traits
Six from Adam, father of mankind

3. Sorrow and crying from Jacob
Yearning and youthfulness are sought

4. Joseph attains truthfulness from him
And with it integrity to rise

5. Then the whispering prayer from Moses passed
Then the sincerity, do not trivialize this

6. And asceticism and wandering from Jesus
The humility of Muhammad is unforgotten

7. And the good manners, O maid
The best of etiquettes among the devout

8. Whoever lacks these qualities
Nothing but loss has befallen him

9. And take from the birds four traits
The cleanliness of a dove, do not lose it

10. From the crow, shrewdness, then silence
From the eagle, sanctity has been gained

11. And the generosity of a rooster, then higher
Whoever has the least of these, I agree

12. That lacking any change
Even if carrion is placed in it, O my brother
