1. What you hoped for has eluded you
So wash your hands of al-‘Abbas with despair

2. And wash your hands with sorrow to make them pure
Of what you hope from the grace of al-‘Abbas

3. May your Lord reward you, O al-‘Abbas, with relief
From the Gardens of Eden, and deliver me from misery
