1. The mixed company grieved deeply when we parted
On the day of farewell, they neither came nor grazed

2. And Allah knows their hearts nearly cracked
From the pain of separation on the day we left

3. I was shocked by my little girls and their mother
The mother of mischief when grief overwhelmed her

4. May Allah not bless her, the troublemaker
Who roused my children after they had slept

5. While we are similar in appearance
Dark, ugly faces and names that offend

6. Does your hunger melt you now that our children
Rely on the Caliph for food and satiety?

7. No, by Him who appointed you Caliph
And gave you leadership with its loftiness

8. I continue to earn it with my labor while she
Eats it without me or my children then lies down

9. She is ugly and greedy, her belly bulging
Her limbs slackened and weakened from gluttony

10. I reminded her of God’s scripture and our sanctity
But she does not benefit from God’s scripture

11. She snarled and angrily said
"Do you recite God's book, you fool?"

12. "Go earn money and land for us
As our neighbors have money and planted fields”

13. “And trick our Caliph out of it with a question
For the Caliph can be fooled by questioning"
