Lady mine, inform her that I pine,

أبلغي سيدتي بالله

1. Lady mine, inform her that I pine,
For her, O mother of her slaves!

١. أبلِغِي سَيِّدَتي بال
لَهِ يا أمَّ عُبَيدَه

2. Though for God her steps inclined,
And for Him if she persuades.

٢. إنَّها أَرشَدَها ال
لَهُ وإن كانَت رَشِيدَه

3. Ere the pilgrimage her foot could stir,
She did promise and did vow;

٣. وَعَدَتنِي قَبلَ أن تَخ
رُجَ لِلحَجِّ وَلِيدَه

4. Messages with verses fair I bore,
And then verses ever new.

٤. فَتَأَنَّيتُ وَأَرسَل
تُ بِعِشرِينَ قَصِيدَه

5. Twenty messengers addressed with verse,
Each forthright succeeding now.

٥. كُلَّما أَخلَقنَ أخلَف
تُ لها أخرَى جَدِيدَه

6. No maid have I soft limbs to ply
At night's time with amorous play;

٦. لَيسَ في بَيتِي لِتَمهِي
دِ فِراشِي مِن قَعيدَه

7. Naught but haggard old woman whose
Legs like pestles gnarled away;

٧. غَيرُ عَجفَاءَ عَجُوزٍ
سَاقُها مِثلُ القَدِيدَه

8. Face more ugly than the owls
That o'er ruins drear hold sway.

٨. وَجهُهَا أقبَحُ مِن حُو
تٍ طَرِيٍّ في عَصِيدَه

9. No life's joy with partner chained
As mine, burdened cares at bay!

٩. ما حَيَاةٌ مَعَ أُنثَى
مِثلَ عِرسِي بِسَعِيدَه
