1. People, what are people? Slaves to power,
No better than riding camels with bloodied muzzles.

2. They churn out oppression and wear themselves out with tyranny,
With pretensions of glory and grandeur.

3. And they weave with their hands two garlands
Out of greed and stone from the cave.

4. Fools contend against individuals and society,
Again against a nation and peoples of every tide.

5. And they strut with tamed nostrils
Used to groveling at the feet of tyrants.

6. So do not be fooled if bared fangs
Bare themselves in transient, fleeting anger.

7. For the well-fed are most protective of their food
When threatened, home they scurry in fear.

8. People are vile as long as their happiness endures,
Be they rabbit or bearer of harm.

9. And people are like a goblet - their affection
Returns only evil for good faith.
