1. Give me drink and turn aside,
Daughter of two sand hills bent.
١. اسقياني وصرفا
بنت حولين قرقفا
2. Give drink to the slender and young―
May God water a slender one.
٢. واسقيا المرهفَ الغري
رَ سقى الله مرهفا
3. Say not, "We see him too precious;"
Made delicate, thinned of weight.
٣. لا تقولا نراه أكلفَ
نضواً مخففا
4. Yes, the garden's basil plant,
Though plucked immature its state.
٤. نعم ريحانةُ النديمِ
وإن كان مُخطَفا
5. If I'm precious, I do espy
The moon itself as precious.
٥. إن يكن أكلفاً فإني
أرى البدرَ أكلفا
6. By my father diagramming maxims,
He suppresses his veilings great.
٦. بأبي ماجِنُ السريرةِ
يُبدي تعفُّفا
7. He lined his cheeks and pencil,
Then lined adorning his plate.
٧. حفَّ أصداغَه وعقربَها
ثم صفَّفا
8. He perfumed the mares' race-course
With musk carefully laid in place.
٨. وحشا مدرج القُصا
صِ بمسكٍ ورصَّفا
9. If I'm chased away from it
You refuse and protest this case.
٩. فإذا رُمتُ منه ذا
ك تأبى وعنفا
10. Only drunkenness tilts its palm trees,
Bringing ripe yield in its pace.
١٠. ليس إلا بأن يُرنِّحَهُ
السكرُ مسعفا
11. Early, no slowness displayed,
As I blame the causing-delay.
١١. باكراً لا تسوفا
ني عدمت المُسوِّفا
12. Hasten it! By the silvern,
Pour the water and tap the pace!
١٢. أعجلاه وبالفضا
ضةِ في السقيِ فاعنفا
13. Bear his rages; though he be
Biting, submit and debase.
١٣. واحملا شغبه وإن
هُوَ زنّضى وأفَّ فا
14. When he yearns for sleep at last,
Rise and slow your pace.
١٤. فإذا همَّ للمنا
مِ فقُوما وخفِّفا
