1. You invited me to abstain from food and drink
And partake in frivolity and wine

2. Had the Prophet preceded me, my endeavor
Towards you would spare me lengthy speech

3. And my longing for you is no different
Than my craving for intimacy and passion

4. But an insolent man took residence
With a declaration replacing inquiry

5. A Hussein who made sacred grounds permissible
With a glance that incited commotion

6. He showed valor and composure but revealed
His vulgarity by foregoing peace

7. And disrupted me with harsh words
When I had given him the reins

8. And had I opposed him, he would not fear killing me
And quickly made me content with the sword
