1. Though I've reached eighty, no excuse is needed
If I don't offer one when blamed or chided

2. For I've outstripped those who rose with me
And nine others who came after me

3. God lifted his pens away from one
Aged eighty, except for those who insisted

4. On causing strife, profaning faith, or blasphemed
For I'm of those whom God selected

5. To face life's joys and bitter tests
So if He ordains righteous deeds for me

6. He'll reward, and if evil, forgive
Don't insist I'm too old and frail

7. For age alone is no crime or failing
Grey hair followed my youth, as day follows dawn

8. God has given me ample excuse
Who can blame me now that I've made my excuse?

9. I live in care of the victorious
Abu Al-Muntasir, who rivals the winds

10. With his endless generosity until exhausted or retracted
The Revelation confirmed his inheritance

11. Who dares oppose the Verses of the Book?
What can the jealous and their ilk do

12. Except deny the truth and remain rock?
