3. Amused by my joy, he laughed at my glee
With notes of a tempo light, teasing and sly

4. Abashed he recoiled, demurring from me
His tears cascading like founts of regret

5. With “if only” and “soon you will see”
He dismissed me, leaving me forlorn

6. The night passed with no glimpse of morn’s first light
Blanketed in fog, horizons still dark

7. But hope buoys his plight
With trysts yet to come, his desires take flight

8. Not coffee that roused him with fragrant delight
But wine that enflamed his cheeks rosy bright

9. In myself I see one who said, as was said
What was done was forbidden, improper and trite
