1. To the Keeper of Allah among His creation
The lamp of daytime and the full moon in darkness

2. We rode the bridal carriages
In the waves of Tigris, steadily undulating

3. When we intended to meet its length
And the fever of its tremors collided

4. We settled in the best of inhabited places
Aiming for it, a desirer among nations

5. Blessed, whose structure was built
With the best of sites, the best of peoples

6. As if musk was scattered over it
For coolness, its breeze and good scent

7. Like leather when rubbed
With oil on its surface and made smooth

8. Safe from winter, its surroundings
When it was flooded by its coming and heaping

9. So a traveller still does not stop
Passing secure and unharmed

10. And walks steadily on his feet
Unshod, clean of step

11. And for hares and deer within it
Grazing grounds inhabited and blessings

12. I went out to the beasts intoxicated
Meadows in its steady light

13. And I walked among it and its flocks
Circling its edges, smiling

14. Space is too narrow for it if it goes
With my tribes and non-Arabs

15. You see victory advancing its banners
When they flutter before the banner

16. And in Allah he defeated his enemies
And unleashed against them swords of vengeance

17. And in Allah he swallows his anger
And in Allah he forgives those who sinned

18. He saw the traits of generosity as praiseworthy
And the traits of generosity are nothing but excellence

19. So he set out with blessings and became wealthy
As if none does good except the blessed
