1. Do you hasten the journey as sustenance
Past the environs of Baghdad, or what?

2. Do you not see that sedition has become accustomed
To the seditious as intimate friends?

3. And Baghdad collapsed, its civilization
Against an opinion, neither this nor that,

4. Destroying and burning, it destroyed its people,
A punishment against those who sought refuge.

5. How harsh are these situations, if they do not return
Baghdad to being Baghdad even in scarcity.
