1. My friend abandoned me when fate turned against me,
And my enemies wished me well and plotted my demise.

2. He ensnared me in his schemes, nearly undoing me,
With ploys that almost destroyed my person.

3. After loyalty, he treated me for a time
With innate betrayal and guile.

4. The door of hope through despair was shut to me,
As all spoke of my affairs.

5. Some said his steed of little worth
In battle rears and bends to captivity.

6. Others said never shall he rout their numbers
And gain victory despite the horsemen.

7. Still others said, Never shall his resolve weaken
When embroiled, he is firmer than rock.

8. Especially when they saw me, aided
By God in advance and retreat alike,

9. And knew I belonged to a fellowship
Whose aid brought fair renown.

10. Chief of the virtuous, who when stirred
Was worthy of thanks for his excellent deed.

11. God gave him a wise soul that grew
In merit and benevolence, concealed and revealed.

12. He still resides, blessed of chest,
In his land of great deeds, Egypt.

13. And I never cease to praise him in any assembly,
With pleasing verse and prose alike.

14. And I hope to congratulate him soon
With a rank befitting its prestige.

15. And recite to him these words:
Joy be yours always, guided from the heart!
