1. O emblem of kingship, lofty minaret
Pillar of glory, lord of pride

2. You are the upright, chosen religion
Wise of judgment, among us with sharp sword

3. You are to knowledge and wisdom a father
You are to the state an excellent counsel

4. You manage Egypt’s affairs with resolve and firmness
You, o just ruler, champion truth over harm’s religion

5. You are the best of people in Egypt where
Through you the star of kingship shone bright

6. How can you not rise above the ignoble people
When exalted of mind in the highest traits?

7. Iyas cannot match your penetrating wisdom
Even if he traversed the depths of the oceans

8. It was fitting for me after witnessing you
To shed my reserve in gratitude

9. And to sell my soul in the market of praise for you
O cave of dew in every house

10. And to harness poetry and prose alike
That I may win precedence in those realms

11. And call “O my people, hasten
To kindle light from the sun of daytime”

12. These are the lights of a rising full moon
That shone in our Egypt without fire

13. O namesake of the Prophet’s cousin
O oft-forgiving of neighbor and stranger

14. O safekeeper of the happy aspirant
For dew, might, and prosperity among us

15. Spun about you while sleep fled the eyelids
I seek no silver for her bride-price

16. Nor do I want reward from the Master
I only hope for acceptance and satisfaction

17. From you for these verses that rose to your loftiness
May God increase you in benevolence over mankind

18. With triumph joined to victory
No auspicious star ever rose in the sky

19. Or strove to earn glory
Or frequented the gathering of praise, O emblem

20. Of kingship, O lofty minaret
