1. Erased were the lines of knowledge in the abode of humility
And the flags of ignorance were raised within it

2. It became ill-omened in the morning and wailed at dusk
For the loss of its master

And opposed it and threatened it with murder

4. And treated its followers unfairly
With constant injustice and separation from loved ones

5. And the gentlemen competed
In foolishness, each more vile than the last

7. With the arrows of his rejection after affection
And he heard no sincere advice

8. And prioritized his mind above all reason
And he distanced me and drew near each new day

9. Flaunting his form in splendid attire
My condition inspired the generous inkwell

10. It saw me faded though unoccupied
So I set out to translate like an interpreter

11. But the rope of my connection was not fully grasped
After thirteen months had passed

12. I returned with all my belongings to my home
I wasted coins on a mattress

13. And pottery, lanterns and locks

14. And on wax and paper and mats
And feathers and saddlebags

And perished ink on an ill-fated day

16. All this for an aspiration
Yet discernment never once

17. Looked upon my manners, knowledge and virtue
Ignorance delayed me from purpose

18. And promoted its like without justice
So the birds said when I returned crestfallen
