1. A beloved who is reluctant to unite, yet generous when distant,
No way to reach him though I yearn.

2. A dear one who seems to hide behind a veil,
Never waning, night or day.

3. The night stretches long when my companion departs,
Thus pass the nights for those in love.

4. I reject all blame though blame comes easily,
For I heed not the words of critics.

5. Let me die in his love and devotion,
For the talk of detractors weighs heavy.

6. When I try to inquire of him, my turmoil grows,
How does one find peace when the heart aches?

7. So let the knowledgeable empathize,
While the ignorant censure and blame.

8. O my killer, have patience and grace for a lover,
Surely the pain of lovers is lingering.

9. When he shunned me and prolonged his absence,
I returned to the eternal Friend.

10. None but the virtuous Shaykh Ibn Rashid
Stands tall among people and is worthy of trust.

11. I found solace in my brother Mas'ud and his generosity,
Who rains bounty while years fade.

12. Brave, firm, valiant, distinguished,
Charging thousands, barely swaying.

13. A peerless youth among the noble ones,
None can equal him among the generous.

14. His gifts sustain people like a rainfall,
His palm clouds raining on mankind.

15. Who compares to Mas'ud, scion of Rashid,
Bounty and grace abundantly bestowed?

16. Though I've written profuse verse praising my lord,
My companion, still it is but little.
